ANNOUNCEMENTS
(also found in the Mainsail Newsletter each month)
Special Fundraiser: One of the annual fund raisers for the Christian Love Pantry and Lakeside Hospice is ―Tables capes‖ which is held each February. This combination fund raiser includes lunch and fun for area ladies and clubs. I have volunteered to head up the door prize/silent auction committee. Since the Christian Love Pantry and Lakeside Hospice, both non profits, were originally our outreach programs I wanted to reach out to you and see if you have item(s) that you would donate for this worthwhile fund raiser. I will be collecting items during the month of January and February. Please call me or stop me at church if you are interested in donating items. Thanks so much. Blessings, Lisa Baggett.
Youth Minister: Over the past several months, we have advertised for a part time Youth Minister via our campuses in Birmingham. Unfortunately, we have no one responding to our ads. If you are aware of someone who would qualify; and someone you would trust your children with, please let the office know their name. If you wish to volunteer yourself, please speak with Fr. Jeff. The job description is available upon request.
Convention Delegates needed! The 181st Diocese of Alabama Convention will be convened Friday-Saturday, February 17-18 2012, at the Van Braun Civic Center in Huntsville AL. As such, St Simon Peter is authorized 3 voting delegates (plus your Rector) to attend and participate. If you are interested in volunteering, please notify me or your Senior Warden before November 29th (we must have delegates identified and registered by 2 December 2011). The cost of lodging and registration fees are paid by the church.
Vestry Nominations: With the coming of the New Year, we will say farewell to the Vestry class of 2012 – Worth Barham (Senior Warden), Josue Almada, Donette Bower & Jay Hollis. Thus, we are now asking for nominations to fill those vacancies as the Class of 2015. To be considered, you need only be a Member-in-Good-Standing at St Simon Peter. This would be a three-year term. If you would like to nominate someone, or be nominated yourself, please speak with any Vestry member or with Fr. Jeff. We will elect our new Vestry during our 8 January 8th 2012 Annual Parish Meeting.
Free Zumba Classes: Laurel Almada and Ana Berry will be offering a Zumba & Strength Exercise class for the members of St. Simon Peter. This is a trial run, beginning in November, the class will be held on Thursdays at 5:15pm. There is no charge for the class. Thank you. Please contact Ana or Laurel for more information.
Sunday Hosts / Hostesses: We desperately need people to sign up for the rest of the year as Hostesses / Hosts for our Sunday Fellowship time. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, nor difficult. Most of us have time to eat and enjoy the many treats a dedicated few offer us to share each week. Keeping this tradition is a sign of Hospitality… just as in the many Biblical stories where food and fellowship were offered to visitors and family alike. Remember, it is a ministry…one that is just as important as any other aspect of being Church together; and, one I hope each of you will find it in your heart—and in your creativity—to participate in throughout the year. The list is posted to the kitchen door. Please sign up!
The Love Pantry Needs Your Help: St. Simon Peter is collecting peanut butter and placing in the basket for the Love Pantry. This is even more important to remember, as the Love Pantry is putting an additional jar in each sack. They have twice the number of clients plus extra people from the tornados in the area. They have increased what the tornado victims can receive to every other week. Also, the Love Pantry is looking for a supply coordinator. This should only involve a couple of hours each week. Please contact Debbie Cearley for more info.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Call for new Newsletter Publisher & Webmaster!!! We are looking for a new person or two to take on the monthly STSP Mainsail Newsletter as well as the STSP website. Due to both school and family requirements, Lindsay will be stepping down as the newsletter editor and webmaster after two years. This is simply a process of collecting inputs, dates & other information from parishioners & Fr Jeff, and then placing them together for publication. If you are interested in taking on these important ministries please contact Lindsay or Fr Jeff. Thank you!
KUDOS: Many thanks are necessary for the past few months. First, I would like to thank all those who helped setup, organize and staff the White Elephant, Ann’s Orphans, and Pumpkin Paloosa. If you haven’t heard, the sales went very well this year…and just in time to help us with budgetary shortfalls incurred due to the loss and reduction of some pledges. In addition, there is a group of folks who are working diligently towards our All Member Canvas…those both hosting and facilitating the Cottage Meetings around our community. Further, our Foundation Committee is working very hard towards helping secure the financial future of St Simon Peter through estate and legacy plans and programs. I would also like to personally thank all those who are so involved in the many ministries who offer their time and talents in all aspects of day-to-day parish life… worship, maintenance, outreach, administration and future planning. Finally, I would like to thank the many volunteers who give up their time to teach our Sunday schools, and for bringing our parish into the 21st century by installing flat screen TVs in all our classrooms. KUDOs are well deserved by all!
